Welcome to Just Primal Things! – A blog dedicated to putting healthier, more naturals things in and on our bodies.

About Me / This Blog

I’m the kind of person who obsessively reads and researches about many things, and I’m also the kind of person who always needs to know all the answers to the question: why. I particpate in a lot of online forums and communities discussing the primal/paleo diet, no-shampoo hair care, natural skin care & beauty alternatives, and more. I spend a lot of time sharing what I know with other individuals, and often find myself repeatedly answering the same questions over and over. To save my fingers from falling off, I have created this blog as a chance to give one detailed resource to help others and also to give you my answer as to why something works or doesn’t. Here I will share my findings with you on natural diet, hair care, beauty, and overall wellness, what worked for me, and what didn’t. I am not an expert, but I promise to thoroughly test something new and tweak the method for a long time before putting my “seal of approval” on it and sharing it with you. I genuinely hope this blog is helpful for you in some way.

I cut out all grains, legumes, dairy, and processed foods, and now eat a clean diet that is high in healthy fats, moderate in proteins, & low in carbs. My main food sources are vegetables, fruits, nuts, natural oils, and seafood/poultry. It’s similar to the paleo diet, but due to some of my own alterations, I identify with eating a primal diet. I first learned about this type of eating while researching health issues that doctors could not cure, but could only put a band-aid on via medicines that had nasty side effects. Following a 100% primal diet has completely turned my health and well-being around to a state of normalcy (I don’t need any medications anymore), and it astonishes me every day how closely intertwined our diet and health are. I feel amazing now and attribute most of that to what I eat.

I regularly practice relaxing and rejuvenating yoga sessions to combat my otherwise crippling anxiety, and have experienced improved mental & physical strength due to it. Taking the time to relax with yoga, essential oils, massages, and meditation has helped enormously with keeping my mind and body peaceful and calm throughout my busy, face paced life.

Beauty & Skin Care

I put down store-bought cosmetics and switched to a more natural, effective, and minimalist skin, hair, and beauty routine that actually works. I can say with certainty that I will never go back to my old habits or the old products simply because these natural alternatives are cheap, low-maintenance, and they actually work for me, unlike everything else I was doing before. I can’t believe I lived without them for so long.

Spread the Word

I feel so lucky to have found these natural alternatives and am grateful I have a chance to share them with you, even if I am just another voice in a rising volume of other voices supporting the natural living movement. I fully support other bloggers or anyone who wants to spread the word about consuming and using more natural, healthier products & methods in and on our bodies. The more people who produce content and share what worked for them, the more this information can saturate the internet, people’s minds, and the food & products developed and sold in stores. If you have found something helpful in my blog or another “natural living” type of blog, I urge you to share it with others!

The title of this blog, Just Primal Things, references the silly internet trend “Just ___ Things” and the sarcastic, clever, inappropriate retorts people come up with for it. It’s ridiculous and makes me giggle every time I come here, and it makes me look forward to posting. I think that’s a good thing! And I hope it makes you giggle sometimes, too. :)

Hey! I love your hair posts, so much so that I just subscribed! I am on a hair journey as well. I was no poo (using various methods such as egg yolk, bentonite clay etc) from Feb-Oct last year, and then I started using some shea moisture low poo for a couple months, and now I’m back to no poo and water only after getting a water softener. I was wondering if you’re going to do a post about shea butter as a heat protectant before straightening? I don’t straighten often, maybe 1-2 times per month on low heat (I have low porosity hair and some low heat helps open the cuticles to allow my abundance of sebum to soak in), but I would still like to know what you have to say about it. Again, LOVE your posts!

Is there a way that one can replace even soap? I am trying to go for a free-chemical way of life and it is not easy. My skin is extra sensitive and I really want to improve my life. I started going no-poo and I find your website the best as of yet. I am now hoping to find ways to keep clean without using chemicals (we all know there are a bunch in soaps and shampoo’s). Any help you can give me would be awesome. Thanks.

Just discovered you, think you’re lovely. You gave me the push I needed to jump into this whole WO hair routine, since baking soda and vinegar “no poo” definitely backfired for me. Just curious: I actually knew the stores you mentioned in the post – are you in Canada?

Thanks for the inspiration m’dear. Stay shiny!
